Can You Buy a Fake Ferrari?

On average, most cars in the market decrease in value as soon as they are driven off the dealership lot. However, Ferrari is one brand that has been able to consistently prove that their vehicles increase in value as they age. Ferrari is a luxury sports car manufacturer located in Maranello, Italy. A number of people have been inspired by their unique work to create their own Ferrari replicas.

Fake Ferrari’s on the Market

Fake Ferraris are in fact on the market, however most of them do not sell for more than their original model. Replicas are usually only worth whatever price the creator thinks they should be worth. However, one specific fake Ferrari sold for $396,000 last weekend at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. This was not just any replica, it was the hero car used in the comedy movie classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” It was created with the Ferrari 812 Superfast V12 in mind, which costs less brand new than what it was sold for at the auction. Modena Design and Development built this specific model and it was one of three cars used for filming. Extensive restoration took place before going to auction, including a new manual transmission, recovered leather seats, a GPS speedometer, and a bluetooth radio. However, this isn’t the first time this specific model sold at an auction; back in August of 2018 it sold for $407,000. This fake Ferrari is an iconic part of the Hollywood movie scene, and will probably be up for sale again one day.
